When I began the Citizen Wells blog in January of 2008, one of the subjects that I intended to address was education, or lack thereof, in the US. I have been watching a disturbing trend in public education of employing too many non front line employees, teachers, and more assistant principals, psychologist types and school resource officers, police. I grew up in NC when people had some damn sense. We had a principal, no assistant in my grade school (not small) and a principal and one assistant in my junior high and high school. My high school had over 2 thousand students.
We are spending too much on education for diminished results.
I heard Glenn Beck on his radio show talk about a Illinois school system that hired a “Chief of Equity And Social Justice” and cut crossing guards.

The U46 School District in Elgin, Illinois is the second largest school system in the state and U46 has dealt with the same financial strain facing many districts around the country. Budgets have been cut to the bone, programs like physical education and art have been eliminated, but that did not prevent the school board from hiring Ushma Shah as “Chief of Equity & Social Justice,” at a cost of $120,000 a year (plus another $12,450 in benefits).
As might be expected, parents who have watched their children’s classroom become increasingly overcrowded are not pleased. Many residents believe the money allocated to “Equity and Social Justice” would be better spent hiring teachers — or crossing guards. Two days ago the Daily Herald revealed that the school district, in cost cutting moves, had reduced the number of bus stops for high school students and also decided against spending just over $13,000 to pay for two crossing guards near an elementary school.
So, recapping: U46 has cut funds for student transportation and crossing guards, while allocating over $120,000 for a newly created position — the chief of equity and social justice.
The question remains, what is the job of a chief of equity and social justice? CBS Radio in Chicago reports that the role of the chief will be “to overcome the district’s educational gaps and foster racial equity.” (Huh?)
The official online job listing for the position states the following “position goals”:
Develop and communicate the vision, mission, goals and measurable outcomes for equity, closure of the achievement gap, and culturally responsive teaching in School District U-46. Work with Superintendent and Cabinet to drive and infuse equity into all aspects of the District. Accountable for developing and implementing “proof of concepts” models for closing the achievement gap in support of the District’s Accountability for Continuous Improvement Plan, Destination 2015. Member of Superintendent’s Cabinet advising District leadership regarding current and future equity and social justice issues and needs of the District.
Coincidentally enough, in March of this year, the man who created the position, U46′s Superintendent Jose Torres, was appointed to a high profile Department of Education commission to study “equity and excellence in education.” And it should also surprise no one that the department does offer training in “social justice” and “equity”. The Dept. of Ed website attempts to offer clarity on the purpose of this program:
The purpose of this program is to award grants (cooperative agreements) to operate ten regional equity assistance centers to provide technical assistance and training, at the request of school boards and other responsible governmental agencies, on issues related to equity in education to ensure that all children, regardless of race, gender, or national origin, have equal access to quality education and the opportunity to develop high academic standards in reading, math and other core subject areas.
Huh? Does that mean the Illinois program is one of 10 being set up around the country? If so, where are the other nine “Chiefs of Equity and Social Justice?” A quick search of the Internet did not turn up another one. . . yet.”

I can neither confirm nor deny actuality seeing the process/procurement/interior/size/amenities of these shelters… But considering the price tag attached to Federal Government Logistics, Supplies, C4-ISR, NCBR Engineering Certification, etc… I would say 20 Billion each, at a bare minimum. 20 Billion times say at least 10 constructed since 2008… Means at the very least 200 Billion Dollars alone, and at a bare minimum with all things such as: Equipment, staff, salaries, benefits, so-on-and-so-forth on down through the list.
Forgive my intentional vagueness, I’m walking a thin line here.

The country is broke and the constitution and laws are being totally disregarded. Not only is this happening, but the media clamor is hell bent on blaming the broke economy not on the people who ran up 14 trillion in debt, but the tea party. I’ve looked around, and already i’ve seen numerous articles talking about the temerity and the nerve of the S&P analysts for downgrading the country’s debt, and how the tea party’s “austerity” is the reason we’re so fouled up. In other words, they want to borrow and spend trillions more and they can’t abide by anybody questioning it.
And of course we’ve got the entire gov’t and media absolutely hell bent on keeping obama in office despite the fact that he’s almost certainly using a stolen ssn and his bc is described as fake by too many adobe experts to count.
It’s difficult to wrap your mind around how the country has sunk so low.
It’s time to stop worrying about every little nitpicky thing that comes along in the daily news cycles. The real problem that we’re now faced with is a country and world that is completely broke and a group of people in charge that pee on laws with impunity. This is not the first time that these kind of things have happened down through that annals of history, folks. When they do happen, it means one thing. War. There are almost certainly conflicts coming that will wipe out who knows how many. The bible says the war in the last days will kill one third of the world’s population. That’s two billion people. If you don’t believe the bible, then what do you think will happen when nations finances are destroyed and the leaders are lying crooks? Do you think “everything will work out somehow” ?
Millions of people in many countries are no longer going to “get a gov’t check and be taken care of”. The gov’t leaders will say “it’s not my fault. It’s their (pointing fingers in every direction) fault”. And that’s how wars commence.
There’s also the little problem with ten percent of the muslims (that’s 100 million) not wanting the jews to exist in the middle east. Forget the blarney you’ve heard in the media about it. It’s all about one thing. And that one thing is that the koran and the bible cannot both be right. Either Issac was the favored son or ishmael was the favored son. If the jews hold the land, that represents to the 100 million true believers something that they cannot and will not ever accept. That Isaac is the favored son. And that the koran is a lie. See?
Hell is coming for breakfast. Forget the small stuff. Prepare for the big things.

yo – You are right. The tipping point is almost here. The downgrading by S&P to AA+ for the first time ever and one of the worst losses ever of Special Forces(31) in Afghanistan yesterday. The stock market loosing over 600 points during the week just adds to the weight.
It will be interesting to hear what kind of spin the MSM will put on Gov. Perry’s Religious get together in Texas today. You are right in the way the MSM and Democrats are attacking the Birthers. Just go back to Germany in the 30’s and how the Jews were blamed for everything and 2000 years ago the Christians.
